Every floor is different, but I doubt you have to worry about 55 Gallon.

My friend and I had to decide if his floor was strong enough for his 250G build.

I read that this morning, it was very helpful except for the Ps (sp) thing?

Still waiting on my dad to let us know if it's safe. I'm so anxious to get this thing filled with water and the filter started!

Thanks for posting that. I agree, most tanks and most floors are fine.

I think I would have to worry with maybe a 75 or 125 tank.
After doing some more research and having you guys help, I really think the tank will be okay.

Well, getting an OK from your dad would probably be safe. At least that way you can say I asked you.
Personally I never though about the weight until I went to a 90G with a 50G sump (even though it was partially filled 25-30G?) that was a total of 120G Roughly 1000lbs in water then glass, wood stand, rocks. I would say it was around 1500lbs just the set up.

The only problem I encounter after having it in one spot for 5 years was the stand had 4 metal legs, which left 4 indents in the floor....

Personally I never though about the weight until I went to a 90G with a 50G sump (even though it was partially filled 25-30G?) that was a total of 120G Roughly 1000lbs in water then glass, wood stand, rocks. I would say it was around 1500lbs just the set up.

My dad called and said It is gonna be okay so I filled up the tank 3/4's of the way until he gets a little bigger, installed the Exo Terra (Didn't fill up the filter itself with water, when I turned it on it made a screaming sound and almost gave me a heart attack, finally realized why). I set the intake in the far front right corner, and the outtake is facing the other side of the tank, using a attachment that came with it to push the water to circulate around to the intake. I'm definitely going to get a second canister for the other side for better filtation (hopefully a better made one, I was looking at the SunSun or Fluval canister filters) and I'm getting sand tonight. Tomorrow morning we head out to Petco and Petsmart for a haul of 200 dollars. So Excited.

I think I'm going to get that Vita shell stuff? For his shell. Just in case the white spots are something bacterial but I really think they're scratches. Just to make sure. And the Zoo Med grow formula for him.

What bulbs do I need to purchase tomorrow? I have one that is splashproof and it's a basking bulb, I'm not sure like exactly what kind it is but it really does work. Do I need a special lighting for the live plants? I was going to get some Frill, Amazon Sword, Green Camboba, and some Corkscrew Vallisneria.

I might also get a few guppies and a few goldfish for him since he's finally starting to chase after fish.

The filter is loud and I can hear it from the living room. I think it might be rattling against the tank?

I think Vita shell would actually make it worse. Search for it over the forum... its generally not recommended. What bulbs do you have now? What kind of filter do you have again?

I have a basking one and a regular household 75watt bulb over the opposite side. The next time I go to Petsmart in a week I am getting whatever else I need.
It's a Exo Terra 200.

By basking one, you mean a UVB? They don't generate much heat, you will need both bulbs over the basking area. It does sound like it's the filter against the glass, can you put something between them?

I fixed the filter last night after we went and got fish, sand, and heaters/decorations.





We got four giant danios, five goldfish (two got killed, we're probably going to lose them all, The petsmart assiociate didn't inform us that the Danio's might do this), a "Cabin In The Woods", a big fake plant, two things of Westeria. We used the reptile hideaway from his old tank, and found a piece of driftwood that we stripped of bark and are now letting it sink that we got from outside.

The sand was leftover sand that my dad had bulk bought a few months ago. It wasn't my first choice but we didn't have a vehicle to go get 100lbs of sand in.

I put the pleco back in, he likes to hide in the cabin during the day. I figured out he was't getting enough food, so we purchased Algae pellets and he's left everyone alone for a good while now.

The danios are major bullies and I honestly hope they die within the year. They've killed two goldfish, nipped at Nemo, and even bully each other. I was thinking this might have something to do with the fact that we ended up with one female and three males.

I'm going to order some plants to tie onto the drift wood, and whichever light bulbs I still need.

I decided I'm going to make a ATBA using three sides of plexiglass and some kind of ramp. If I made the ATBA long enough, could I get a ten gallon tank screen cover for it, and set the lights ontop using those black round metal covers from pet stores, but order them off of amazon?


Both heaters are set to 80F, and I want to order a thermometer for the basking side once I fix up the ATBA.

We ended up spending 132 dollars for all his stuff, and three items for the hamster also. I know I could've gotten everything a lot cheaper off of amazon, well aside from fish of course, but I enjoyed buying everything in person with my best friend. It even inspired her to start her own fish tank .

So I think I'm just going to look for something on Amazon that comes with both bulbs. I don't have the package that the bulb I have now came in so I'm not sure what brand, type, anything it is. I'd rather start over than get a bulb and have it be the exact same bulb.

Zoo Med has a combo lamp fixture, or do you mean a combo bulb? Those are called Mercury Vapor Bulbs (MVB) and there are only a couple of manufacturers.

I don't like the dock either, which is why I'm going to build him a ATBA. My friend put the dock in, so I'll fix it tonight. It's missing the bottom suction cups, but I like that more because the bottom floats away from the tank, and he can't get stuck behind it.

And I mean the combo lamp fixture. I talked to my dad about the ATBA and he says it's doable with what I have in mind. Three sides of plexi glass with screen on top. The bottom I'm not sure about, but I was thinking of using repti carpet on it and the ramp? Would it provide enough traction or do I need to make one and attach gravel to it?

I'm not entirely sure yet, I'm still doing some research.

Depending on if it's going to be fully submerged or not.

Moss would be the easiest option. Just put some Java moss in my tank and my turtle doesnt seem interested in eating it all at once, which is great considering anything else they have killed. Java Fern is nice as well. Pretty easy to grow plants.

I just read your previous post on plant light, you just have to make sure you keep the right spectrum of light. I like 6500k and 10000k Lighting, Red and purple is good for plants. generally people say 2-3Watts per gallon in the tank but that's for full stocked planted tank. Getting a 6500K white LED bulb and put it in a clip on light should be more than enough for some plants.
