Camee- i hope they get used to it too! that grass was $15 - yikes. it's a little odd because Squirt was the one who usually basks more....like almost all day. maybe he'll bask today optimism!

GOOD NEWS!!! I just got home and both of them were basking in all their glory in the new box! YAY!! Of course they dove off as soon as i walked in, but hey, we're makin progress!

as a treat i let them out and they now have free rome of the living room and backyard!

If they're going into the back yard you'd better watch them like a hawk to make sure they don't start walking and never look back.

Ditto Spots! Mine will cruise away so fast I gotta turn everthing off to see if I can hear shell or claws on the floor..and thats only in the house. We havent been outside yet....

LOL.....I say backyard.....but what i mean is about 20 square feet of concrete and 10 square feet of dirt/grass with a fence around it. we live in an apartment, so not much of a yard. but it does get a little sunlight.

i often leave the backdoor open and just let them roam inside or out, but i block off the kitchen and laundry room so they can't hide behind anything. not really any chance for them to get lost here. someday i hope to have a house with a nice big yard they can explore (supervised of course).

That's sounds cool tohmit! If I would let Tobi in my backyard...she would be gobbled by my 2 doggies...lol Yours sounds MUCH better!

Tohmit - what size tank do you have them in? I love this idea. I just purchased a 120 gallon for my 2 turtles and am trying to design a new basking dock. Right now they are just on corkbark and a large zoo med dock. I am just getting the new one set up so this helps alot.

my tank is only a 60 gallon. it is 12 inches wide which is perfect for the crate i used. i've seen larger crates at k mart. i'm sure you can find something great that will work for you!

well it's been a couple days now since i've seen Crush bask. i went and got a little warmer bulb today. the bulb i bought before for the turtle dock wasn't quite enough for the new basking box. hopefully Crush will start basking again tomorrow.
