Wow, those are some nice setups. I guess I will get a 10 gallon tank and use the floating dock with a plant or two. With a heater, will I need a spiral protector? And a fish filter will work, right? Does it matter how close the light will be to the basking area?

That rubbermaid in the link is really nice. The glass aquarium at the bottom would be very nice but it needs way way way more water in it.

They do sleep underwater in fact they prefer it. Im not to sure about the heater but i dont see why it would preent a problem. They will swim up and eat they have good scent and will come up to eat.

Do you think that my little guy, I worry about what he can and cannot do, will be able to get up on a dock that has a ramp going into the water? How often should I change the water with a filter?

I think he'll be able to get up the little dock just fine. And from what ive read about chaning water with a filter you should do a full change and clean once a month and a partial water change (change some of the water maybe 30%) every week. Correct me if im wrong.

I don't have the funds for a uvb light right away, and I'm not even sure how to set one up with a fish tank, is the uvb light a must even if they get sunlight have a good source of calcium, or course ill get it eventually, but in the mean time?

I agree this site is great for questions on RES im going to be coming back here alot in the future. As for the UVB light if they get sunlight then its ok not to have it. But as far as i know this is direct sunlight IE having them outside. I think the glass absorbe the UVB rays.

If they get bigger, I'll get a bigger tank. But i can only afford like a ten gallon tank right now, and the filter/heater. Can someone give me a clue what the prices are for regular stuff like that. Looking to spend $40 though I have more.

For the tank your looking at 10 dollars if you find one on sale shouldnt be to hard to find. For the filter id say another 10-15 and maybe 10-15 for the heater im prolly wrong though. :?

I just read on another site that the turtle can drown when the water depth is higher is double its shell length...

A 30 gallon rubbermaid costs about 8 bucks...maybe less. You can use it instead of a tank and your RES will love it,and it will save you money rather than buying a useless 10 gallon tank that your turtles will outgrow even more in a couple of months.
