I run a FX5 AND a XP4 at the same time on my 75 gallon tank. It's not too much flow rate and the filtration is great. Yes, either one of these filters is adequate to handle the 75g tank and the second filter is overkill but other than a little extra $ to power the second filter, you really cannot over filter your tank.
The Troops wrote:You need a better heater for your tank then if the water isnt staying at a stable temp. Look into getting a higher setable watt heater to keep the water at a stable temp. If your worried about the water getting to cold while the ac is on in the same room, then you need to move the tank. Interference with their sleep pattern can cause other health issues that arent so curable. We arent trying to scare you. We are just speaking from experience and also from what others have found. Turts sleep in water at night on cool days cause it holds the heat. If the water is warm enough for them at night, and the basking area is warmer during the day the turts will be fine.
The Troops wrote:Having 5 turts in that tank you would need to jump up filtration. I'd step it up. Even if you fill the tank up 1/2 way (27.5g) your JUST at 3 times the filtering with that sunsun yor looking at. I'd say get something for 125g or more. IMHO, if your strapped for cash, go for at least the Penplax Cascade 1200. You can find them pretty cheap and I have experience with their 700 model. It works pretty good! Been running it myself for about 8 months and the person I got it from had it for awhile as well. (bought it used)
That SunSun is just to small for that many turts. The water quality wouldnt be that great for the little guys/gals.
Heater wise, get one that is made for up to 55g (will actually say on package) thats setable, fully submersible, and shatterproof. You should be fine. Before i had turtles i had fish for many years. The tank was in my bedroom and I had a window unit in my room too. Tank stayed at 76deg all summer and all winter. And my bedroom w as alwaysvat like 65 or less! And all I did was get a heater for up to 100g.

The Troops wrote:As Kansas said, the 700 wouldnt do much, or anything at all for that tank. It's to weak for that many gallons and number of turts! The 700 is on my 30g tank (1/2 way filled up) and is only used if I need to separate a turt for a bit. It'll work for up to 50 fish gallons, but not turtle gallons. IMHO it's probably good for MAYBE 15-20 single turtle gallons. I only used it a handful of times and dumped the water out after they where in there.
