First, that is an amazingly beautiful home :D

I don't know if this would be of any help since my tank is significantly smaller, but from the placement of simba jr's home, after anything more than 50% water changes we get a bad alge problem... green murky water. A few doses of API's "Algaefix" clears it up quite well. Probably useless, but it might help, and very cheap just in case it doesn't! :)

Do you have the brand info??

Did you have green water or algae growth?

Which one did you get? And do you still have the site you got it from?

Continuing the the algae topic, I posted this in my own topic, but no one is replying (though 90 people have viewed the thread), so I'll ask it here. I have a problem with brown algae that I can't get rid of. Any ideas?

The "views" of a topic is misleading... most of the hits are search engines crawling the site. With any type of algae, I try to get rid of it as soon as it shows up... if its a glass surface, I usually wrap a paper towel around a squeegee and wipe it off.

Okay, so I've looked at a lot of sterilizers and stuff and they cost a lot of money that we don't have right now. So, I figured if I could remove the 'infected' sand, the algae couldn't grow back. So, this is what we have as of now:

I used my shrimp net and a five gallon bucket and scooped it all up. Tell me what you guys think.

Looks fine to me. How long did you have that sand?

A solution may be cheaper and simpler than you think, and is highlighted in your original post.

Unlike plants, algae flourishes in oxygen rich water. This is why most people who want a heaviliy planted aquarium minimise the surface disturbance, and never have air stones to keep oxygen lower.

Try switching off your air pumps completely and see if that makes a difference. As a turtle does not need water high in oxygen this will not be a problem.

Wow guys, thanks. That site was great and I think I found the kind that I had.

And if the algae comes back again, I'll try turning off my pumps.

For the people who are wondering: a UV sterilizer will NOT get rid of algae (green, brown or otherwise) on the rocks or glass. It will only kill algae that is suspended in the water column, i.e. green water.
