ive found some fx5's on ebay for just over £130 new so i think i might just wait a couple of weeks to put the turtle in his new tank and buy a new fx5 :)

unless in the meantime i can get a cheaper one from somewhere

rite then ive found a filter guys. does any ony have any idea of the specs for a LAC 809 external filter????

i have found that it is used on a few of the tanks listed here
http://www.coburgaquarium.com.au/tanks_jebo_R2.html

and judging by the tank capacities the filter must be quite good. i have emailed the store but got no reply yet. does any one have one of these filters or has had one???

blu-l -- I have stuck the at least 5 times per hour rule. All of my tanks are over the 5 times per hour. With such a large tank you need to get the gph up to keep it clean. An FX-5 would do just great. Good Luck b.

this filter is just a temporary measure which i will put with 2 fluval 1's a fluval 2 plus and an interpret (notsure of model). untill i save for the fluval fx5. once i get the fx5 i will use the 809 for the 30g tank i have and put is a couple of fish :)

Post Posted: Thu May 26, 2011 6:08 pm   Re: what size filter for new tank

old thread but i thought id revive it, i now have a major upgrade on my filter, im using a Laguna PowerJet Max Flow 3500 (3700 l/h) Pump, with the Laguna Pressure-Flo 5000 UVC Filter 11w UV clarification.

tank capacity to brim = 436.5 litres
tank capacity to shelf = 400.1 litres

so, my cycle rate

to brim = 3700 / 436.5 = 8.47
to shelf = 3700 / 400.1 = 9.24

so im getting my full tank contents cycled to my current fill level of the shelf, 9.24 times p/h.

much much better than what i was getting. i think about 1.5 times p/h
