So that one posted is definately not a UVB then?

No, UVB bulbs are always flourescent, whether compact or tube. The only exception is for mercury vapor bulbs, which are large bulbs that produce both heat and UVB. They're only suitable for larger tanks.

Any idea the distance I'd need to place that one? Or what would be a good thermo to check the spot?

It should say on the box the distance to put it, but a good distance is like 5-8".

A digital thermometer with a probe is a good way to measure basking temps. You have to leave it there for a while and make sure to put the probe at the height of what the top of the turtles shell would be.

You can also get a Temp gun for like $20 at most hardware stores. With one of these you get an instant reading and you just aim in at the spot. ;)
