Habitat - Indoor :: New basking area :)

I made a new basking area for my babies with a pink storage tote I had in the attic, then put the turtle dock as the ramp with cable ties,a tank liner inside the tote, and the metal lid on top attached with cable ties as well. The only thing is the uvb is not close enough because I can't put it on top of the screen cover since the bulb sticks out I have to buy a bigger clamp lamp to be able to put the lamp next to the other. They still have not gone to the basking area

Thanks no, they look at it (see the 2nd picture lol )but they don't even go near the ramp. I guess it takes some time to get used to it.

thanks I still have not seen them up there but, I did see one of them trying to go up but went back to the pool once she saw me lol

They are shy. Sheldon does that (and he's almost 3 years old). lol

Mines are about the same age I guess they do that until they get a lil more older then stop being shy? I have seen videos of turtles basking right in front of their owners like nothing lol

I think it depends on the turtle. I mean he used to bask all the time in front of people when the water was too cold but now, not so much.

During the winter when our turtles are inside in their indoor tank, they don't like when things are too close to their pond. After a few months being in the pond, I adjusted their lights which brought the lights closer to the pond. They stopped basking. I moved the lights back a couple inches and within 20 minutes they were basking again?!?!!

Your turtle(s) might be a little frightened by the large pink tote. Try luring them into the tote by placing food on the ramp and in the tote. A clear tote might work better.

hi. mr. turtle here. i am on-line and was exploring the day/night lights and wanted to know if anyone uses them or what? i have a credit at amazon that i am quickly using up on mr. turtle....i used to get tattoos and go to bars....now mr. turtle is the center of my ecosystem....(LOL) he basks all the time in front of me and that is when he does the scratching thing and the quacking thing....i wonder if he is trying to tell me something (stock hints...more turtle porn? what he is saying>>>>i don't know but i keep telling him to quack into the mike so we can go viral on youtube!!! it is about time he starts earning his keep@!

so does anyone do the day/night thing? i am going to purchase a dual light and dual bulbs with the thought that i can return them if necessary....i am trtying to use my credit before it expires.....i was going to get a "hello kitty" pj set, but NO.....mr. turtle wants a new light so....

he is not shy with me...between him, all the abandoned kitties and the three possums now cohabitating in my house, life is just a blast.....i can't believe that the possums (within a week) all decided to go and poop in the tub.....i posted a sign "poop here" and voila....and who says they are stupid? not me....not since there are 3 of them and one of me and they have 50 teeth (more than any other mammal in all of north america....they have never hissed, they let me pet them and i just adore them.....so would everyone else if they knew they were marsupials (like kangaroos -- same family) and if they had bushy tails....they are so fricking adorable...i opened a dresser drawer the other day and one just popped out....nearly had a coronary!!! mr. turtle is not amused....he likes all the attention so he just goes up and quacks.....silly turtle...

You don't need lights at night since it can disrupt their sleeping patterns.

steve: i just noticed ur reply about the lights at night.....forget "freakshow" cause she is,,,well,,,a freak!! but i wasnt getting home til midnight from school and most of the times mr. turtle ould be basking then.so i would leave them on...sometimes in the morning, she would still be basking...i have one of those blue lights now...i just figured sh was keeping my hours is all....im a night owl....she likes attention...she craves it...or rather, she demands it....funny mr. turtle....she likes it when i sing to her when she basks....that is when she will quack....if she doesnt do it, I just say "quack for me turtle" and she does....
