Habitat - Indoor :: water current

i just got a RES and noticed the water coming out of my return bar is strong enough to push my turtle around. should i try to adjust the current? if so, please give your thoughts on how i would do that. my filter is an eheim 2215

Is your turtle very small? Does he seem to be struggling? Does it happen only when he's near the return outlet or is it a problem throughout the tank? A little more info would be useful.

he is probably about 2 inches. he can swim to the end of the tank but he seems to have problems when he gets about halfway.

yeah sounds like ti's too strong. I'm not familiar with that filter, sometimes there's a valve to adjust the flow, and sometimes they come with a spray bar that makes less of a jet coming out. Maybe someone will come along that has a filter like this and can help you more.

it has as a spray bar that i have in the water but it also has a valve that you can adjust. im a little worried to adjust the valve because i dont wat the filter to get backed up or anything

You can try lifting the spray bar out of the water, and let it spay into the water, that should reduce the current, but it will make it rather noisy.

my filter has a valve to adjust, it works by adjusting the pump itself, so the pump doesn't bring in as much water at one time. this way it doesn't get backed up. now im not too sure about yours i've never heard of that filter.

i had the spray bar out of the water for awhile but i couldnt handle the noise for too long. i guess i have no choice but to do that now. the valve on my filter doent do anything to the pump. its just a quick disconect for when i clean the filter

You could use that valve, but unless it controls the pump it self, it will decrease the life the pump. Could you flip the spray bar around so that it is pointed toward the glass? That would reduce the current, or if you have it out of the water, it will reduce the noise.

I took a small fish net $.99 at walmart I bent the handle so it would hang on the side of the tank. It slowed water down and made it much quieter.

It is my temp tank, but it work even better in my glass tank.

Wow!! Thats a grate idea!!! It is much cheaper, and easier then trying to glue a piece of plexiglass to the front of the filter, so the water runs down it into the water. That is really smart.

Yeah I had the net for the feeder fish when I got them and a real tank(I started with the plastic bowl the pet store sold me) I tried to go to sleep that night and the water kept me up. I had the idea to slow the water down, but I tried and old shirt, a sock, they kept falling in the water, I bumped the dresser and say the net. I said I could buy another, I had to sleep, and I have had it like that ever since.

I spray it clean when I change the filter. Sometimes more, I love it.

sorry it took so long to reply. after some trial and alot of error i was able to point the spray bar towards the glass in a way that reduces the current enough so Cujo could swim easily but also allows the water to keep moving.
