Alright,there's this hobby shop!they have a 20 gallon aquarium and the store will be closed forever soon.Now they are selling a 20 gallon aquarium for 800 yen!!!!!!that means 8 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!and it comes with a basking light that cost 5 bucks!!!!!!1300 yen!!!!13 bucks!!!!!should I get it for opus???

That size would be good if Opus is 2 inches in shell length. Proper tank size equation: 1 inch equals 10 gallons. Sounds like a screamin deal though!

All of his life? Woah woah woah buddy, stop right there. You're turtle will need a 90 gallon minimum when he's an adult, and if he turns into a she, will need a 120 gallon.

A 20 gallon will NOT support him for the rest of his life. You should possibly reconsider having the turtle in the first place, or consider saving up for a 90 gallon.

You can find good prices on tanks at your local flea market, newspaper or craigslist.org. (i got my 50 gallon off of craigslist for $20, and my 100 gallon pond for $20)

Most definitely not a year, my turtles are 3 years old and are 5 inches already (as of 3 months ago). Are you absolutely sure he is a male?

Cleaning is MUCH easier with a big tank than a small one, as long as you have a good filter. It is also much less frequent.

I would honestly look locally for at least a 50 gallon for now.

Well sometimes we just can't afford a huge tank. You gotta think about space, money, and whether you can convince your parents...

You don't always have to think in terms of tanks either. Other containers that are meant to hold water (like stock tanks, but I don't know if they'd be called that in Japan) will work well also. They're cheaper and can come in large sizes.

I think that it's fine that you don't buy a huge tank right now, as many have pointed out, it will take years for your RES to get so large she or he will need the 90 gallon tank. However, buying a tank that is already too small for your turtle's current size seems like a bad idea to me. Why not do yourself a favor and put that money towards a larger set up? A 4 inch turtle will not be much happier in a 20 gallon versus a 10 gallon tank. You'd be wise to buy her a 30 or 40 gallon tank so that will last her a year or more.

How large is Opus? I assumed he was a tiny little hatchling, I don't know that a 20 gal is already too small... and I definitely think that for 8$ it's a great deal. Some people on here have 20 gal. for a 7 inch turtle, for example, but my advice would be yes, buy it... it won't last long but it's a great deal and would give little Opus twice the space he has now.
