i wouldnt trust myself to make a tank that'll be holding hundreds of pounds of water. mess up the seams, it can turn into quite the pricey cleanup.

i really like the idea of two 120 gallon tanks with the one basking platform. that'd be impressive.

What's not that different? Building a tank with plexiglass vs. glass? Actually, they are very different. Plexiglass (acrylic) requires a special cement to glue the pieces together. The joint actually becomes stronger than the acrylic itself if done correctly. Glass is joined using silicone which works very differently than plastic and cement. There needs to be a gap between the glass panes with silicone in between (and no air bubbles). Therefore you can't clamp the pieces together while the silicone dries like you do with acrylic. The glass is also much heavier and needs to be handled more carefully.

I've built acrylic tanks before and it's not that difficult. The most difficult part of it is making sure the edges perfectly straight with no defects before cementing them together. Working with glass in my opinion is more difficult (but not impossible).
