Habitat - Indoor :: water height for baby RES's { picture included}

i read that if they are put in too much water they will drown.
i dont want my babys to drown!!!!
and before they get too much bigger, i have to go out and buy some river rocks, because at the moment their mouths are way too small for this gravel, but in not too long their mouths will get bigger!

so look at this and tell me about how much more water i need.
and here is alos a picture of the size of my two turtles just to help you help me a little=]

the lighter colored one is nimrod
and the darker one is savage.
savage has to go to the vet on monday =[

and im afraid that if i raise the water level, nimrod will have difficulty getting up to the top of the water ot get air, because as it is, he has slight difficulty and finds himself scrambling up rocks to get air!
should i just gradually raise the water level?
i think if thats so, im going to wait until savage gets home from the vet, and see what the vet says.

I think we all have that fear when we get baby turtles. But you can safely increase the height of the water. Turtles are quite strong swimmers even those as small as yours. But if you still are uneasy about it, I guess you could slowly increase the level so that the turtles might get used to the depth. I see that your turtles are sick from the other post, in my opinion, you could increase the depth slightly and increase it even more once they are better. Cute little guys by the way.

Make sure they have places to rest... fake plants, an additional basking area, etc. Have you separated them yet?

If the turtles are sick or weak it would be best to keep the level where it is. There's enough water in there for them to swim freely. Once they are both healthy again and active, you should begin to raise the water level gradually. Make sure the sloping section of the basking platform is angled into the water so they can climb on it easier. And like Steve mentioned, put some fake plants in there that either float or else come up to just below the water level so the turtles can rest on them and still poke their heads above water to breath.

well savage was the only one who was sick, nimrod is happy and healthy and very energetic! i have fake plants in there, but when i put more water in there they will stand up better =p

oh, and dont worry, just in case whatever savage had was contageous, as soon as i took savages body out, i put nimrod in a different thing! i didnt want him swimming in icky water!


so now i can just fill it up after i clean it all out?

Sorry to hear about savage I would definitely clean the tank very well and monitor nimrod's behavior to make sure he doesn't have any symptoms of what savage had.

haha most definatly! im going out in a little bit to buy some new { bigger} rocks and instead of cleaning out the tank every other day im going to go out and buy a filter, i would have gotten one earlier but after getting everything for the tank i didnt have much money left over to buy a filter!
but today is the day =p

If I were you, I might take Nimrod to the vet just to be sure he isn't illtoo, and just not showing symptoms. If it's free, whynot?
