hey i am kinda new and i am wondering if I NEED a UVB light for my Red Ear Slider? I just got him today so i still need a name for him/her so thanks!!

All turtles kept indoors NEED a UVB light
2 Chinese Goldenthread turtles ~ Miso&Mafan
1 Chinese Box turtle ~ Chief Lemon
2 Redfoot Tortoises ~ Sheegua & Muugua
1 Toy Poodle ~ Pudding
3 firebellied newts ~ Cassandra, Mr.Poo, and Wiggles.

yea, it's required so they can metabolize the calcium for their bones and shell.

Make sure you don't buy a bulb that says full spectrum, it's only UVA light (stupid petsmart people)

i think i am getting a Repti Glo 5.0 - 13 watt is that good?

With my 75 gallon. I was reccomended to get a 100 watt one. How big is your tank? The others will be able to help you a bit better knowing how big it is.

edit: wait.. my bad. i dont think it matters how big your tank is.

tenlientl, the 100-watt bulb is a mercury vapor bulb? If so, the Repti-Glo 5.0 isn't. It is possible, however, to have it over the basking area in a larger tank.
