Habitat - Indoor :: UVB Bulb and Tank Stand question.

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I really think some of the reptisun CF's are flawed. Some seem to be fine. Steve said he used one with no problem and got another - and then started seeing irritated turtle eyes. If that's the case it's disturbing that it's going on so long. Seems like early last fall I started seeing posts on here about turtle eye problems and reptisun bulbs.

Well, in your opinion, if you could get a reptiglo 2.0 or a 10.0, which one would you pick?

I agree with marisa that a 2.0 bulb sounds too weak to do much good. And I'm afraid of the reptisun 10.0 CFs. I would use a tube flourescent and get a reptisun 10.0.

I can't get a tube one since that would mean a forty dollar hood and 20 dollar bulb..I'm not trying to be cheap here but I think I might go with the 10.0 by Exo Terra instead of the 5.0 since I have never heard anything bad about it, but hopefully they have a five but I might consider the 3.0 coil bulb...thanks.

Well, if you go with the 10.0, just make sure to set the bulb up higher and directly over their heads, not at an angle. Maybe use a screen between them and the bulb too. Also keep close watch out for any eye irritation.

I was wondering about those Reptiglo lights tonight. They have them at petsmart in the compact flourescent versions, a 2.0, a 5.0 and a 10.0, and I was trying to figure out why they're so cheap. Are they of lower quality than the zoomed bulbs?

No, I don't think so. They have a good site describing their prudcts and a chart/graph showing the UVB output. I have one of their UVA sun-glo bulbs. If a ten is going to cause all that trouble though, then I am not going to get it. I guess I will get the ESU 20 watt 3% UVB bulb if they don't have a 5.0 reptiglo.
