Hello everyone - I'm back after a small hiatus after Turtle passed away. My husband and I decided that we are going to adopt a turtle from the Colorado Reptile Humane Society, as we have a beautiful big tank that is sitting empty (and it makes us feel lonely every time we walk by!) My dad came over and helped us start our above-tank basking area - I think it's really going to be great. I will post some photos when we're done. After reading about the difficulty selecting material to form the "base" of the basking area, we're going to try using 2 large (18" x 9") floating turtle docks for the actual basking area - so we will be able to fill the tank to the top, but the docks will just float on the top of the water. I'll report back on how it ends up working out (although we may not know if it is successful until after we have our new member of the family!)
