My RES is named Slick... I love him! All the info I have read said that somewhere between 75 and 80 is the ideal temp for his water. Usually the water is about 70 degrees. He is active, has a healthy appetite, and seems happy. Do you think that the 70 degree water is okay? He basks a lot, could it be because the water is too cold?

They bask to regulate their body temperature, so it's possible he's needing to climb out and warm himself up more frequently. Do you have a water heater? It's a good investment. Also, how old is your turtle? If it's a baby you definitely want the water warmer, more like 78-80.
