We got 13 inches of snow this passed week, just when I need to go get more rocks for the turtles tank. The boyfriends Gram gave us some Quartz rocks, big enough that she wouldnt eat them..but Im still worried...should I put them in there?

Any rocks that are smooth with no jagged edges and won't flake or fall apart underwater should be OK. I first wash mine in a 10% bleach solution then boil them for about 20 mins.

You don't "need" rocks for the tank. If you are using small rocks to build up a "land area", then you should get a different basking area. Otherwise, just a few rocks (large enough that they can't eat or swallow) in the bottom are fine.

Quartz is fine as long as it isn't splitting. I have one of those in my tank with Sheba too & it is holding up fine. :)

I've got some polished quartz rocks in my res's tank and he hasn't had any problems with them (they tend to get green from algae eventually).
