iam looking to put sand in my tank. is this a good idea or bad? i saw beast's tank set up and it looks nice. however others have had problems. who eles has sand in their tank? thanks

There is no serious harm in putting sand in your tank, it can pass through a turtle's digestive tract and it looks nice.

However, the downside is that it does get really messy very quickly, is a real hassle to clean, and you need to clean your filter a lot more often, due to all the sand being sucked in.

i think that beast said it made his tank cloudy because it was light. I'm not sure but maybe beast will pop in to give you his issues with it

If you do a search on sand, you can see how others have dealt with it.. some with good results, some with bad.

I know this is an old topic, but the stand I got for my tank has a little 2-3 inch space underneath the bottom of the tank. I put my river rocks under there since they are a pain to get all the waste out of, but if you have a similar space you could probably put anything you want down there. If only they sold high quality pictures of sand/rock like they do for backgrounds. The only issue is that you can't see the rocks when you look at it from the side. Maybe if you put lights underneath...
