i'll get a bit of acetone and pry the sucker off, then. or just get a new one, that one works so well at measuring ambient temps, too.

You don't need to use a solvent like acetone. You can pry it off and then remove the residue with a razor.

I'm going to take a picture of my hot bulb when I get home. It's a GE 75 watt clear bulb. Before I used those I bought all those reptile specific lights, and they never did the trick.

The key is to buy an ordinary house bulb that doesn't have "soft light"

My current bulb get's sputniks basking spot to 94, the 100 watt one got it to 120! (I never used it). This is at approximately 12 inches away.

Nice settup. How big is your tank?

Nice tank, nice house. Those bulbs look rather far from the basking area. If you're have trouble increasing the temp, can you get the heat bulb closer? How far is the UVB light from the basking area?

the temp has been raised to 87, much better.

That's the 75 watt clear bulb, and from that distance it gets the basking spot to 94.
