Also, if you are going to a pet store, always kinda have an idea what you are going for, employees are not always the most knowledgable and/or caring. But for the UV light, you want something like a Reptisun or the liking, and for filters something that's 3x as big as your take is preferable.

Our turtle, Fred, is still not eating.

He just lays in the water all the time now. He doesn't even come out to bask. If we pick him up and move him (say, by the 3 kinds of fresh food we put in), he looks at the food, then makes his way back to the ceramic log thing we have in the water and hangs on to it.

We're starting to get concerned.

Any words of encouragement and advice greatly appreciated.

what are you offering for food currently? Is he completly disinterested? What if you leave it in the tank?

Do you have aquatic plants he may be eating?

How long have you had him? For several days, a new turtle is usually just overwhelmed by all the newness and won't do much but hide - won't eat or bask. In your case, especially, I think the little guy has been through a lot of change as you've upgraded his habitat and may just be feeling shy. If that's the case, give him some peace and quiet and privacy for a few days while he acclimates.

If he hasn't eaten for more than a few days, though, you need to try to entice him. Here's a link with some items that might be helpful.

If these ideas don't work, consider whether he's got any signs of an illness.

I would also reluctantly try unfrozen raw shrimp. Remember, smelly food gets their attention. What is the temperature of the water again?

Spot would jump through a hoop for unfrozen raw shrimp. He had some for Christmas dinner. If he were ever refusing his pellets, I'd give him shrimp. If he refused shrimp, then I'd really worry.
