Habitat - Indoor :: Powerhead set-up

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I'm looking for a powerhead that I can effectively run in unison with my XP3 canister filter. I'd also like for the powerhead to oxygenate the water so biological filtration improves.
Do powerheads need an air pump hooked up to them to oxygenate the water or do they do that themselves? I'm strongly leaning toward the Aquaclear 70 powerhead. I see a clear plastic tube coming off of it in the picture, does that mean it does indeed need and external air pump? If so, how powerful of an air pump is needed?

Thank you

I'm not sure but they are really made to provide circulation provides circulation. The, tube I think is a diffuser, and they will oxygenate the water. There should also be a tube to connect to an under-gravel filter, if you want too.

So this tube that I'm seeing is an optional hook-up to an undergravel filter? What is a diffuser? I'll send a PM to the one person who just bought an Aquaclear 70 also.

I think the clear tube is the diffuser. Hope this link helps you out: http://www.hagen.com/pdf/aquatic/AquaclearPH_50-70.pdf

I see how it says with air, which is exactly what I want, thanks for the link. I'll just send a quick e-mail to Hagen asking if it requires an external air pump, from the link you provided it sure doesn't look like it.

Thanks for helping out!
