Habitat - Indoor :: Large enough heater

Hello,

I'm planning on getting a heater for my 110 gallon tank. But, the stealth heater only goes up to 300 watts, which is only rated for tanks up to 75 gallons. So, I started looking into 400 watt heaters and found two main kinds.

First, the Hydor 400 watt

Also, there's the Ebo Jager

Which one of these do you all reccomend? The Hydor seems newer. Also, will I need a heater guard for it?

The Ebo Jager is great brand. Currently, I'm using 2 250W Stealth heaters for my 125 gallon tank.

Well I was wondering, I know with the stealth heaters, you don't need a heater guard. But, do you need one with the Ebo Jager or the Hydor? The Ebo Jager is made out of 2mm Pyrex glass. The Hydor is made out of "shatterproof" glass. I don't think they have a heater guard that's big enough for them. Do you think a turtle can break 2mm of glass?

I've never used a heater guard, but my tank is not crowded either. There are a number of people who make their own guards out of PVC pipe with holes drilled into them.

Same here, but my two turtles never really go ramming into the heater. They'll tug on it and get it out of the suction cup holder. I'm just debating between two 250 watt stealths or one 500 watt Ebo-Jager TS. My only concern is if a fully grown turtle can break the Jager's glass..

I would go with two heaters, on both ends of the tank, to spread the heat evenly......

That is better, but it also does take up more room and costs more. I'm not too worried about the cost though. Just how the 2, 250 watt's will take up quite a bit of room. If the 500 watt won't break I'd rather get that. But I bet a full grown male swimming full speed could crack the ebo-jager...

2 won't take too much room in a 110 gallon and you can position them vertically. It also helps out as a backup, you could take it out during the summer and it also heats the water faster after a water change.

If it warms up faster after a water change then I'll go for the 2, 250 watts. Now I just need to get the credit card from my parents.
