NO, you shouldn't have gravel anyway. Aside from the cleaning frustration, they can eat it. The gravel can become impacted and require surgery, or even cause death.
If you want a safer, easier option, go with some river rock. It's found in most pet stores. It will decorate the bottom of the tank, but be easier to clean around. The less you have in your tank, the easier it is to clean.
