My stock tank will be on the floor and not on a stand. I have been told that a canister filter will not work but was never given any alternative. What are good alternative filters I can use or any workaround so that I could use a canister filter?

Any chance you could build a stand about 10" tall out of wood? That's what I did and it worked.

I mentioned it in the other post, but you can raise it a bit with some cinderblocks. Wood could work too, plus give you the storage space underneath.
