Habitat - Indoor :: 100 gallon Aquasystem Aquarium

Hello everyone I have another question for the forums.
I've been searching for another tank so I can separate my two red eared sliders instead of dividing the current 100 gallon tank. While I've been searching I've made some improvements to their current tank until I find something. One thing I came across is a used aquasystem aquarium made by truvu.
It has some type of built in filter in the back that I've never seen before and I wondered if anyone had any experience with it. I noticed that the water must be filled at least 2 inches to the top for the built in filter to be useable which wouldn't be a problem because I would build an ATBA. The person with the tank is one of my neighbors its been in his garage for years and he forgot about it until he started cleaning. He doesn't remember why he stopped using it so when he finishes cleaning his garage and can get to it easily we'll make sure everything is good.
I'm not sure if it is an aquasystem tank I just know its made by truvu and searching their website it seems to be very similar.

Has anyone ever used an aquasystem tank?

EDIT: After a little research I realized it may be just a wet/dry filter and Truvu just has a special name for it?
If so my current tank has a wet/dry filter so I think I may know what it is. I guess I'll know for sure this weekend when we finish digging it out.

Since the tank has been in the garage for some time check for cracks in the seal, heat can cause silicone to crack which is not a big deal you can scrape it off and apply some mmore. Best thing would be to inspect the tank and fill it with water to check for leaks. Maybe let it sit in your garage for a while just to be sure.

as far as wet dry filters they dont really do much for turtles coz they rely on skimming while turtle waste sinks. Best to use a canister filter. You can find good deals online, how big is the new tank? There are plenty of options for diy filters too. Good luck

Don't forget, we generally recommend a filter that 3x rated for fish. It looks clean and convenient but you become part of a limited and permanent filter setup.

The tank is 100 gallons good advice on checking the silicone. I've never tried to apply silicone before but I'm pretty sure I'd be able to do it. After we finish digging out the tank and I look at it up close I'll have more answers, I haven't even made an offer yet I'm just hoping he doesn't say a crazy price.
I'll most likely try a DIY cannister filter set up, I've been watching a few youtube videos on the subject, because I'm saving my extra money for the tank. I feel bad watching them share a tank the main problem is space, one of them may end up in the unheated garage or they'll have to be in my room (family doesn't like seeing them).
Maybe I can just use the back part to grow plants in or something?
Since its there may as well figure out something to use it for, its going to fill with water regardless unless I find a way to seal off the holes. Maybe I'll see if I can use a small water pump to slowly pass water over some Eloda or some other low light plant that my turtles can eat.
P.S. as I was typing this I got to see my female turtle bask on her new ATBA for the first time, now if only the guy would man up and climb up his.

I bought a used 100 gallon tank and stand for a $100 a couple years back. Depending on the condition and what you get, I wouldn't pay more than that. If it wasn't cleaned before it was put away, I would offer a lot less.

After helping the neighbor and testing the tank I realized it wasn't worth it. (Plus the tank was filthy with a possible 1" crack or scratch)
The bottom seal looked like it needed to be changed and after he said $200 tank and stand, he wasn't willing to negotiate because he wasn't to put his snake in the tank.
But after he does that he said I can buy his 55 gallon for $50 but I don't think that would really help my current situation.
The 55 gallon doesn't have a stand and hes had a snake in since he bought it so I'll have to make sure it holds water first.
Back to craigslist.

On a lighter note both turtles love the ATBA and I think they are basking more than they used too.

Thanks for the update. Sealing a big tank is a lot of work... it didn't sound like it was worth it.
