Habitat - Indoor :: Live Moss in Basking area?

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Would you recommend moss in my turtles basking spot? I have access to very large quantities of moss in the wild and thought that it would be something to change up the scenery in an otherwise sorta boring basking spot. I was just thinking of gathering some washing it to remove any dirt on it and placing in the tank. Could there be any problems with doing this that I'm unaware of? Keeping it alive isn't a huge problem cause I plan on misting it a few times a day and replacing it every month or so to keep things fresh. I just don't want to put it in the tank and have problems arise from it, I don't see why it would cause a problem but just want to be safe. Thanks

I think it depends on what kind it is. Java moss and moss balls are commonly used in aquariums. What kind of basking area do you have? The plastron (bottom half of shell) really needs to dry off during basking, so it might pose a problem.

I've tried this and found that the basking light will dry out and burn the moss that is directly under it. I imagine dry dormant moss may work well.

I just thought of something. How a high tide, low tide system;) That would be cool! I wonder if those even exist? I imagine they someone has done it.
