I have a question about a basking bulb:

Would this one be ok for a basking spot bulb?

It can be used but it provides no UVB. You can use regular incandescent lights and most lights that produce heat. I personally like to use outdoor halogen lights.

Splashing an incandescent with water isn't good. However, since it is over the basking area, which doesn't have water in it, and since it is probably not that close, it should be good.

I have an above tank basking area with an incandescent. So the light is pretty far from the water surface, and the basking area blocks most of the water exposure anyway. Of course, I also have a juvenile who is only about 2.5" long, so he can't splash that much anyway.

If you had a floating basking area and a larger turtle, then splashing on an incandescent could be a concern.

However, I believe many here use incandescent for their heat source. I had briefly tried a ceramic heat light that I was leaving on 24/7 because of how cold we keep our house in the winter. That didn't last long because Toby didn't bask much with just the UVB and the ceramic heat.

Ultimately, Toby got an upgraded tank in the basement, where the ambient temperature was not as cold as the rest of the house. Unfortunately, now I never see him bask, because he jumps down as soon as anyone is halfway down the stairs.

The incandescent has been doing fine for months.
