Habitat - Indoor :: water turning yellow?!

hey guys, the water in my tank turned yellowish pretty quickly this week (around 5 days). the water is still clear! what can be the issue?
(i do not use any woods that may stain the water)

How much water is in there and what type of filtration are you using? Are there any new odors?

having the same issue. i run a fx5 and a cascade 1000. a 125 gallon tank filled all the way up. just checked my levels and they look fine.

Have you put any chemicals in your water?

yes they are both setup just like the thread says.except for the fact that i only have one black sponge in the cascade instead of two. and nope haven't added anything to the water.

How much carbon / purigen did you put in there and how long has it been in there?

No purigen. But carbon I have two small bags. And in the cascade I have one of the premade bag that fits it. They have been there for about a month. I know its about time for me to change them but this happend about a week to ten day after I set up my tank. Could it be that the bacteria didn't have time to set up in the filter rings?

What decorations do you have in the tank, yellow water is usually tannins from driftwood. Purigen would help if that is the case, as would presoaking the wood for a few days in warm water to leach out the tannins.

nope dont have any drift wood. all i have is a plastic log thing from petco that ive had for about a year.

Your due to change your carbon so I'd start there. As Pridg mentioned, a bag of Purigen in the filter can really clear up your water. What do your water parameters look like?

I will start with the puigen. What do you mean by parameters? Are you talking about the ph and ammonia and stuff? If you are they were fine just a couple of day ago. But will re test and add a pic of the results.

ammonia / nitrite / nitrate. Replace the carbon (it's dead and useless at a month old) and add the purigen is a good start.
