Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I heard somewhere that Musk turtles do not need to bask. Is that true? It immediately struck me as wrong... from what I know about my RES. Also if they don't need to bask you still need to provide them with dry land right? I mean it just seems cruel to keep a turtle in a tank with no way to get out of the water to me...

They should be given a basking area. They might not utilize it as often as a RES, but many do bask.

Yes give them a basking area, some might not bask as much as turtles while others love to bask. Common musk turtle are known in the wild for climbing very high up into places just to get a good basking area.

Ive seen it first hand, ive seen some that managed to get 6ft or higher up into trees that allowed them too. Also the two mucks that i still own love to bask.

That's what I figured... someone was really convinced they were right and it threw me a curve ball. :)
