Hi guys,

ive just built an exterior basking area for the terrapins and its been 24 hours and they have not used it, is the slope to steep? can they see it? or does it just take time for them to explor? they just seem to be swimming by my filter :/

They are excellent climbers, but I think you're also correct with your other questions. It does seem a bit steep and yes it does take time for them to explore and become comfortable with the new environment.

Does the basking light need to be on 24hrs a day? water temp is always at 78 but figure they need to be able to bask at any time?

No... most people have the basking lights mimic the outdoor sun. IE if it's light outside, your lights are on. Some people will just leave the lights on a timer set for 8-10 hours a day.
