Once you have a properly set up and cycled canister filter, you really don't need to replace any media. Lightly rinse your biomedia (you'll probably never have to replace it), and rinse out the coarse sponges (these will last a very long time as well, replace when they start to fall apart). Replace carbon if your are using any (carbon can be bought loose at any pet store and placed in media bags or clean new nylon knee highs) and replace and regenerate purigen if you are using any. You shouldn't be using any fine floss unless you are using it for water polishing, but you can buy huge bags of the poly floss for a couple bucks at the pet store too. That is the advantage of a higher end canister filter, no proprietary media to replace constantly.
