Habitat - Indoor :: Areas for hatchlings

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I was told with younger turtles to fill the water up as much as possible but to make sure I had items besides the basking rock near the surface of the water for them to rest on if they get tired. All the fake aquarium things in petco and such won't reach to the top of a full 55gal tank. Any ideas?
I tried real plants but my filter is underpowered (Working on getting a new one) and they ate a whole plant in less than a day and it was a mess so i don't want to try that again until I have a new filter.

I've seen people use soap dishes (the ones with suction cups) for them to hang onto.

I would say driftwood, but that can be expensive for the really big ones that reach up to the top of the water.

driftwood is a good idea. and it doesn't necessarily need to go to the top of the tank. i had a variety of things at different heights and it seemed to work out just fine

I use the plants for terrariums, the ones with the suction cups near the top of the plant. And then i just keep the suction cup at the top of the water line. That way the plant goes to the surface of the water.

Thanks, I went to petsmart today and got both plants and then a soap dish (from somewhere else) we'll see how it goes!

Driftwood was a little pricey and all the pieces I saw were an awkward shape for my tank set up

Let me know how the plants work out for you. Mine love them even my big girl RES....she sleeps in them lol. My little hatchling hangs in them all the time. Hopefully it's what you were looking for.

So far they seem to be hanging out in the plants and to my knowledge haven't touched the soap dish
