Habitat - Indoor :: Tank opinions

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

1) Glass, acrylic?

2) Is finding a used tank on Craigs List, Ebay etc. reliable?

3) For a new tank: Big Al, Petco, Petsmart, Amazon, Foster & Smith?

Discuss. Thanks!

1) Glass looks nice but it heavier. Acrylic can scratch, cost a lot more.
2) Craigslist has been good... the very least you can check for cracks. You can always remove and reseal the silicone.
3) New tanks from Petco are good when they have that $1 per gallon sale, but that is only up to 55 gallons. Also consider glasscages.com, they have a lot more sizes.

(Big investment, here!)
What is the difference between a breeder tank and a regular one?
Does it matter if the tank is long or high?
Miss Tee will have an ABTA (Turtle Topper---I am challenged when it comes to making this kind of stuff:-(

Breeder tanks are wider then normal tanks (front to back). If i could choose i'd pick a long tank instead of a tall just because its more suited for how a turtle swims (back and forth instead of up and down), long would give it more useable space.

Making an atba isn't as hard as you'd think it would be, the ATBA thread is really nice to look at and get ideas, just remember measure everything twice and cut once...or measure it 4-5 times like i did since i'm ocd lol.

Make sure the turtle topper will fit whatever size tank you get, I looked into it for myself and I was told it only fits up to 55 gals

Turtle topper probably will not fit a 40 breeder. Check first.

The last time I did anything with power tools was when I was in Art School, 30 years ago!

But I can sure as hell paint/draw a lovely image of an ABTA :P

No, it looks like Turtle Topper for me!...

before you go out and buy, post on a website called freecycle for a tank. i got mine from there for free all i had to do was pick it up. if you post on there and leave if a couple of weeks to recieve replies then you could land a real bargain. just be sure to reseal the tank prior to use. better safe than sorry
