So I am thinking I would like to make my own carbon bags rather than buying the Fluval brand. I am looking at big Als online and there are different types of "media bags" and "media socks"... how do I know what to buy? Like would these work for a Fluval 405?

Also I was thinking Marineland carbon, and possibly trying some Seachem Purigen. Anyone have any input on any of this?

Thanks!

I have used cheap pantyhose in the past by cutting them in sections and tying them off but its getting harder to find hose for some reason. I guess women are not wearing them as much as they used to.

Purigen all the way. $8 for the 100ML bag at big als. You can regenerate it and use it over and over.

If you go carbon, the best deal is at bulkreefsupply.com. The middle grade lignite carbon is really cheap in bulk and works really well.

I personally wouldn't buy anything from Marineland anymore. This is the same company who refused to acknowledge their stealth pro heaters were exploding, putting us and our pets in danger. They then secretly recalled and removed the product a year+ later.

As far as cheap media bags.... Petsmart has them for 99 cents.
