Currently I have an incandescent bulb for heat and a Repti Glo for UVB. Incandescent bulbs are going to be banned from manufacture next year. So, I was wondering what kind of basking lights everyone else uses.

I use a self ballasted Mercury Vapor Bulb from Exo Terra. It does heat, UVA and UVB in a single bulb for around $40 USD. I find the MVB bulbs to last a LOT longer than CFLs.

My turtle also seems to want to bask more with the MVB light vs. the separate CFL + Heat I used to have.

What wattage should I be using? And does anyone know of a good online retailer that sells them? I couldn't find any at the pet store.

The wattage depends on the heat you need and the distance the fixture will be from the basking platform. I use the smaller of the two (less wattage) exo terra bulbs - 125 watt. My bulb is approximately 14 inches from the basking platform which stays around 90 degrees.

I have the Reptology Turtle Topper for her basking platform. The clamp lamp is about 12 inches from the platform. I can adjust it by a few inches if needed.

use a thermometer at the basking platform to get a temperature reading and adjust the height of your lamp accordingly.

cheers!
