Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Has anyone tried to but RES with cichlids? I am getting a new 125 gal tank for my two RES. They are both about 4 inches so they are getting more space. I am trying to get rid of another tank so I was wondering if my 5 cichlids would be okay in the tank.
Thanks for any input.

What type of cichlids and what size? I have had great success with cichlids and turtles. Iv kept Convicts, Electric Blues and yellows, Oscars, Jack Dempseys, stuff like that.

Unfortunately I don't know what kind of Cichlids I have. I am pretty sure they are South American. One is about 3 inches and I have had it about 10 months. The other 4 are about 2 inches and have been with me about 5 months.

if you've had them that long and they're only a few inches they sound like african cichlids, but regardless, if they are that small, and aren't extremely aggressive, they're probably fine with the turtles.

@Sini5t3r - that's suprising that oscars and jack dempseys were ok with turtles. oscars will eat almost anything that will fit in it's mouth and i've seen some pretty mean jack dempsey's & texas cichlids.

i guess the fish won't see the turtles as a threat because they don't recognize them as other fish.

In my fish keeping experience, you should be fine. none of your cichlids will be able to best a 4'' turtle.

iv actually had oscars in my pond with them in the summer that were HUGE...like the size of my chest and they would nip the crap out of the turtles when the turtles didnt know if they could eat them or not and try to bite them. the oscars were so big tho they were like "what the hell are you doing to me" and would just totally own the turtle lol. One bite and the turtle freaks out and swims off SOOO fast its pretty funny...and yeah my jack was pretty mean but he left the turtles alone since he was the only one in there. im sure if i had a female and they had eggs a turtle would end up dead

I had a convict cichlid that my brother gave me because it pecked a few of his fish to death. We figured the turtles could talk some sense into it, and if not they would have a good meal. The cichlid ended up pecking at one of my turtles so relentlessly he jumped out of the tank on numerous occasions. I had to give him away once I realized he was the reason for the turtle escapes. Just my experience.
