Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I have a 45 gallon tank, filled about 3/4 with water. I'm looking to get a new filter since mine isn't cutting it. I was looking at the rena filters but wasn't sure if i should go with the rena xp2 or the rena xp3. Getting the xp3 would be nice since i wouldn't have to upgrade again, but i'm worried it might cause to much of a disturbance in my tank, I don't want my little guy whooshing around like hes in a hurricane or anything  Any suggestions would be helpful

The XP3 comes with a spray bar if you find that the output is too much. If you find the intake too strong, there a post with a modified intake (which is a tube with a series of holes drilled into it).

The XP3. You can angle the output toward the wall of the tank to cut down on turbulence.

Thanks for the input. Also if i'm not able to make the space for a canister filter is there any underwater filters you guys would recommend for my setup? Thanks again.

Also still trying to find the post about the modifications, the OP of that thread posts alot and im up to page 45 on his list lol

If you absolutely can't fit a canister under the tank, rather than a submersible filter (which usually isn't very good and takes up space in the tank), I'd go for a H.O.T. (hang on tank) filter like the largest Aquaclear. I use a 110 on a 40-gallon stock tank and it does a decent job of filtering the water. A disadvantage is the noise from falling water, but you could either fill your tank up more or add a plexiglass lip to break the fall of the water.

If you can, though, try to make room for a canister.

It's a very good filter... I've had it in operation for about 5 years.
