Habitat - Indoor :: Biting At Rocks

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Yesterday, I had placed some rocks that are all about 3cm or more in width at the bottom of my turtles tank for decoration and make their tank more lively.

I woke up today and noticed that my turtle keeps biting a certain rock. He's not chipping it, and the rock is almost twice the size that he is.

Should I be concerned with this behavior and take out the stones? Or is he just playing with his new habitat?

It should be harmless. As long as the rock isn't too jagged or rough, it may be beneficial towards keeping your turtle's beak trimmed.

My RES has certain rocks that he finds attractive. He'll flutter at them as well as nip at them and roll them around. Have you noticed your RES fluttering at the rock as well as biting it?

My female bites the rocks in her tank too, but this only happens when there is no cuttlebone around. If I keep a permanent supply of cuttlebone in the tank, she eats that rather than bite the rocks.

My turtle bites carmel colored rocks. No clue why.

Black rocks she moves to a line in the center, blue glass "rocks" are not allowed in the back right corner. The moss ball must be wedged under the filter. Thegrey dock must always be upside down. As well as the grey ceramic piece of driftwood.

Turtles are weird...
