my water is slowly fading into a light fog/tint.

is this just cycling?

i had to do a 100% water change a couple weeks ago. it was crystal clear until a few days ago.

i have a 75 g tank with a rena xp3 filter.
i threw out the micropolish pad cause it was dirty from before and i tried to replace it with a different cheap media but slowed down my gph output.
i loaded the filter with biospheres, scrubbies and chem stars. i also have some carbon in a couple nylon socks...

i wonder if the carbon is even working? or if theres too much biomedia?

i do regular water changes too..

what do u guys think?

also i noticed a lot of brown algae has been growing since i've re arranged the lighting. i changed it to just over top the basking area but before it was kind half onto the dock and half into the water...
do u think the lighting has an effect?

the tank has two 3'' turtles and a tiny cory catfish

Carbon needs to be replaced regularly and you can't have too much bio media.

It sounds like cycling, you've never had this occur? Has your setup changed in anyway?

steve,

wow! i thought so! my filters PACKED! with biomedia. i've even got an additional Hang On Tank filter with biomedia in it.

the carbons only 2 weeks old. it says on the packaging to replace every month so i think i'm okay on that note.

my setup hasnt changed at all...

Sound like cycling, generaly it stay clear the first few days then water will get foggy and then you will get brown algae, it take up to 2 months before everything stabilize.Try to avoid 100% water change as it might reset the cycle.

As of carbon ,its a matter of choice. Until you use medication in the water i see no point in using it.

thanks sull324,

you don't think there's such thing as too much bio-media?

my xp3 has the filter pads, then 40 spheres, 12 chemstars, 4 scrubbies, then two socks of carbon..
