Hi! I currently have a 50 gallon tank and would like to hear your recommendations on canisters. I've been considering the Eheim Classic, but also see many people enjoying the Rena XP3. What other canisters would you recommend?

Are there any sites that I can look at sell canisters? There was another thread mentioning the XP3 for sale at $120, but that site adjusted the price.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I need a filter that is at least 3x the size of my tank AND 5x GPH circulation?

yes, your numbers are correct (filter for 3x the size of your tank / 5x the GPH that you have gallons in your tank). So for a 50 gallon, you want a filter that is intended for a 150gallon+ aquarium, or a filter that pumps 250GPH+.

I've heard Rena and Eheim are both good, especially the latter. Although, you want to get the largest filter you can afford, because you will eventually need a larger tank than a 50 gallon.

Both are good brands. You have the numbers right too. The prices between them are different though. It just comes down to what you can afford.
RES: Turtley - about 9" (She makes it a mission to measure her. :/)
Musk: Bolt - 4.5"
Mutt: Gaviota - small
