I have 2 3inch turtles and one 2 1/2 inch turtle. They have lived together thier whole lives.
That just was some information i needed to get by! Now what i was going to say!
Ok, i have had my turtles in a full 20 gallon tank for most of thier lives. Before december 2009 they were in a half filled tank. Before novemeber 2009 they were in a half filled 10 gallon tank.
My mom says that i should put them in a 1/4 filled tank because the pet stores said so. Before they told her that, I had it all the way full! They did fine, but she thinks thats what caused the fungus.(it being all the way full)
My aunt said that she had her turtles in the same tank i have now (she had to get rid of them). She had hers 3/4 full. Her turtles did great but she said i would be fine with the full filled tank.
I think it should be all the way full because
1. they are used to it
2. it stays cleaner
3. they dont fight
4. More room for them
5. Lots of people that are doing fine with thier turtles have it full
Ok , now for the facts:
I have expirenmented with all 3 ways.
With the 1/4 full way i got these results w/ no gravel vac once in between (couldnt use it, water was too shallow):
1. Water was dirty by 4th day
2. Turtles kept fighting (slight nipping and alot of fluttering)
3. Turtles looked cramped
4. Had to do 2 water changes in 1 week, in a 20 gallon tank with 60 gallon filteration (something wrong here?)
5. Turtles werent as active as normal.
6. werent as hungry as normal
With the 3/4 full way i got these results
1. Stayed fairly clean after 1 week
2. No fighting between the turtles(expect over food, nothing out of the norm)
3. Turtles werent cramped but once when two turtles fought over one corner
4.Only had to change it once a week, give or take a day.
5. Turtles were active like normal
With it all the way full, i got these results.
1. Stayed perfectly clean after 1 week
2. Turtles didnt fight at all (expect over food, nothing out of the norm)
3. Turtles had enough space
4. Only had to change 1/4 of it in 1 1/2 weeks
5. Turtles were happy for all of the extra space
Plus do you have any tips for water changes:
PS: Python dosent works(but we will try it @ the rental)
Also when i did the buckets, got a little water on the carpet and my mom thinks it has to be replaced. It looks like it never happened.
When i did the water change with the towels, the rug didnt get wet but my mom got all mad because i used too much towels to cross to teh bathroom (used as less as i could)
The only reason she made me puit it so low is because a pet store said so.
My dad is fairly netural so i am trying to tell him how high the water should be. Well he is on my moms side right now but the difference is he will talk about why he wants it his way while my mom will say "because i said so". How high should my water be. You can post it or vote in the poll
