Post Posted: Fri Apr 23, 2010 4:22 am   1st cycle- killed all my fish, TURTLE IS LONELY ....HELP

Okay so after a few changes here and there i thought i had this thing under control....NOOOOOOOOOOT

WELL, lets agree that im a fool for a second... hahaha
after i cleaned all my tank, dock, filter etc.... i even whipped w/ rubbing alcohol ...i dunno about cleaning much... i didnt use soap cuz i read never to do it... here is what happened.

I just added water from the sink to the aquarium and the fish died... i think is because of the chlorine and i didnt wait the proper time etc... so killed the fishes, the turtle didnt care much...

i have a turtle hut, and after i cleaned it... i notices on day 2 that a substance like white cotton balls were forming the turtle hut... only..nothing else...only at the top...very weird... i cleaned it tday...

also because my tank has some clear bottom[no rocks at that spot], the turtle's waste is just there... and my turtle ate its poooopo...weird... i didnt like it much

. what can i do to prevent my turtle from eating its own poooopo?[sand?]
. whats that white stuff ?
. I must de-chlorine the water before water cycles and addig water...will do that!
. WHATS UP WITH THE GREEN STUFF building up on the rocks? good idea bad idea? i have new rocks and a new set up but nways..watch the video...

any other suggestions? sorry im a newbie...i read tons of topics..like 5hours straight...lol...its time to go to bed... please help me outz!

1.eating it's own poo is normal..best not to disturb that i guess..

2.I guess it's the chroline from the sink water...

3.hey guys, what's the white stuff anyway??

4. the green stuff is probably algae you have to clean it.

I can't see the video from work right now, however, as kharados said, turtles will eat their own poo, there's nothing you can do about it. If you have green stuff on the rocks it's most likely algae. It won't harm your turtle - if forms wherever there's too much light (I get it on the basking platform).

Chlorine will kill your fish. So if you add new fish make sure to dechlorinate the water first. However, keep in mind your turtle might eat the fish anyway, I only buy cheap/inexpensive fish for that reason.

When you clean the filter, don't rinse it in chlorinated water, rinse it with tank water so you don't kill the beneficial bacteria in your tank.

If your tank is dirty or needs to be cleaned, use diluted vinegar. This won't harm your fish/turtle. It's good you didn't use soap, so you're not such a "fool" after all.
