I know, I know, another algae question. It seems like I get dark green algae on my floating dock a lot. It's gotten to the point that I can't get it all scrubbed off. I'm ready to give up and buy another one. And I get a weird brown film-y type algae on the bottom of the tank and on the heater. I also have green algae in the filter.

I clean and change the water about ever 1 1/2 - 2 weeks. And I scrub it down. It's a 20 gallon tank. Am I doing something wrong? It's not near a window. And I do admit that I don't clean out Filbert's poop. I just never see it!

well u should probaly upgrade filtration. more filtration should get rid of that problem as well as cleaning what u can get off. having a bare bottomtank helps to keep it clean too

There nothing wrong with algae ,a cheap solution would be to get an chinese or siamese algae eater to do the job for you.

As of your turtle poop,it probably eat it back which is normal.

I don't know if he would try to eat a algae eater? And I've heard stories of an algae eater getting attached to a turt's shell and taking him for a ride!

For this to happen it has to be a pretty bit Algae Eater..

I have 2 Chinese Algae Eaters in my tank and they have grown REALLY fast, but there pretty, and they are super fast swimmers so my turtles cant even touch them...not a scratch on them after about a month or more...

I have pleco, it gets rid so algae so well that I actually have to get some algae wafers to keep it full. But then again, I have two so eh. They grow pretty fast because mine doubled in size within 3 weeks. They're plated fish so even if your turtle manage to bite them then they can just simply shake it off. Plecos are nocturnal so don't exactly them to keep your tank 24/7 but they do eat quite a bit of algae in the day once they get used to your tank. I would say with two plecos with a 20 gallon tank then you can go to sleep overnight and your tank will be cleaner then you can expect in the morning.

Yeah my 2 CAE's keep my tank spotless and its RIGHT next to a open window daily..I think I am going to keep it next to the window so that there is a abundance of Algae for them to eat even tho I cant see any :D They also keep the floor of the tank clean too its spotless all the time and im sure my goldfish i have in there do good as bottom feeders aswell too :D

Don't start feeding them commercial fish food or they'll stop eating algae. They do get pretty aggressive. I think plecos don't have that problem and they're pretty fast swimmers too. They started eating algae wafers and my tank is too spotless even though my MVB bulb is shining down on it.
