Post Posted: Wed Dec 30, 2009 4:42 pm   !!New Tank!!

Im soo excited right now! Last week on thursday i went to pick up a new aquarium. The best part is i traded a 10 gallon for a drumroll please..............75 Gallon! Plus it came with all accesories. It came with an old marieneland penguin330 plus an undergravel filter, gravel, decorative film, a tetra luft pump, an oak stand, all glass top, and a 48 inch light fixture. Ive been cleaning it out for the past couple days and finalt have it all setup except for a turtle dock and gravel. shold i uswe the old gravel? All suggestions are welcome and thanks 4 reading!

yay!!! That's awesome! It looks huuuge compared to what you had right?? haha... that's cool.

I use sand for my tank, no gravel. My turtle definitely eats the gravel (I know because the previous owner had him with gravel and he pooped it out for weeks after I had him). It makes me nervous so I rather not take the risk.

Make sure you get fast fish! lol. Good luck!

vear I was just talking about that in another post. My RES will bite gravel with food on it then run it around his mouth then spit it back out. Maybe that's the difference in captive bred and wild. I found mine in the wild and he was hunting and killing fish far before my captive bred ones were. I'm thinking that has a lot to do with the gravel eating. But yes I got rid of the gravel too for bigger rocks. It gives the fish more room to graze without the turtles being able to gobble down there food.

Nice grab!

I would remove the under-gravel filter for two reasons. First, you shouldn't use gravel. It dangerous for your turtles. Second, the power of an under-gravel filter, and the slot openings, are no match for the messy-ness of a turtle.

Your best best, sorry to say, is to put the sand in BEFORE the water. When you do it this way, you can put a large bowl on the sand and pour water in the bowl to let it overflow to minimize agitation of the sand, because the settling can take quite a while.

You seem to have everything else, or plan to, that you need. Just get yourself a powerful canister filter and you're set. Don't for get your UV bulbs, either.

sounds good except the undergravel. I allready considered that the under gravel filter int anywhere near strong enough but it will help in small ways. ill change the gravel to river rock thoughI have a powerfilter in alson and i am going to make a diy canister filter. The uv bulbs are what have me confused. i have the all glass aquarium top and a light fixture but i dont want to have to take off the top for the heat lamp and all. i can get a flouresent lamp(have no idea how to spell flouresent) tube but im still trying to find another way at heating the basking lamp. As for the fish rosys survive the longest from what i have had. They are dead in a month if i buy a dozen with raphaiel in the tank. Im thinking of getting a stock tank for him because i dont want him eating all the expensive fish or attacking the little guys. Its nice moving up from a 25 gallon rubbermaid and a 10 gallon galss to a 75 gallon

What are the dimensions of that tank? It looks like the size of my 50 gal.

Nice trade!
