how long do you keep your basking light on for or do you keep it on forever?

I do a 12 on 12 off cycle not in a breeding program. I use a timer that automatically turns on the light and then turns it off again

I have a new turtle who is still shy about basking in front of me. Problem is we share a room during the day. Would it be OK to leave the light on for a few nights to ensure she is getting the proper rays or should I just give her more time to warm up to me. Didn't mean to hijack the thread but I thought this would be a good place to pose the question.

Koopa - Is the reason you want to keep the light on 24/7 for heat? If so, a water heater is def a better alternative.

Penelope - Yeah not cool to hijack a thread, but i'll let it slide cause you're cute ;)
Just don't keep replying or it will be an "official" hijack.
You could leave the light on for a few days, but i don't see it making a big difference. Just make sure the turtle has both UVA and UVB and proper basking spot.

And who exactly are you?
I think it would be appropriate if you minded you're own business instead of paying so much attention to what i do or do not write if it does not regard you.
FYI complimenting someone does not enter the "hitting on" category but i do not have to explain to you.
