Habitat - Indoor :: What's a good filter brand?

I am currently using Aqua Clear Power Filter. It use to work great, now the water never gets clear. And it would be plugged every week. I have bought new parts for it but the water stays yucky. I changed some of the water too. Sure I could change more water, but i was just wondering what brands of filter does everyone use.
My turtles are about 5-6 years old.

Brand names appreciated.

I would like like filters where i don't have to clean weekly. The longer the better, thank you.

What size is your tank? You want something with at least 3 times the gph as your tank size.
I personally recommend the Fluval FX5. It's a monster of a filter, and it has some nifty features.
In general, canister filters are better than HOT or internal filters, since there is more room for media.

B-Dog is correct about the gph. I recommend at "least" 5 times the voulme turn over in an hour (gph) Most turtle owners cut corners when it comes to adequate water flow and bacteria filtration. I am a fan of caniser filters. I own several. m.

A canister filter is a filter that sits outside (usually under) the tank. Usually the body of the filter looks kind of like a bucket, or canister.

faith-x -- It probably would be for your interest to do some reseach on canister filters. HOT filters mean Hang ON Tank. Canisters are easier to clean and usually do a better job on filtering. Size the filter to the amount of gallons you have in the tank. Get a filter that pumps at least 5 times the amount of water you have in the tank. m.

i like xp3's but the fluval seems pretty good also. they look sturdy and seem to do good jobs. but the xp3 for me has too many pieces and the canister looks like it can break easily. i had some problems with it but for you i recommend the fluval
