Habitat - Indoor :: Noisy Waterfall Filter Remedy

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

I recently got an AquaTech 20-40 power filter for my turtle's tank (a hang on tank kind). It's a waterfall type. It was the only kind at the store, so I didn't really have any other choices. The problem is, as is often the case with waterfall types in turtle tanks, the water level is a couple of inches below the lip of the filter, and this causes a great deal of splashing and noise. The information page on filter types says:

"This can be reduced in many cases with a simple DIY fix by extending the lip or by adding a flap."

Can anyone give me instructions on exactly how to do this and what materials are required? Or link me to a topic about it? I tried searching already, but wasn't having any luck. I'm a very quiet person, and I know the filter will drive me crazy. Thanks in advance.

What you do is attach a piece of plexiglass or other water proof material to the waterfall ramp so that the water trickles into the tank instead of dropping from the end of the filter.
I did a quick search and didn't see any photo topics on it, sorry.

Another option is to raise the water level and then give the turtle an above tank basking area so you don't have to worry about escapes.

Hm, I can't raise the water level anymore. My floating basking platform is already doing a slanting pride rock, lion king thing (which makes for an entertaining image since the turtle gets on the highest spot). Can't really do an above tank basking area.

As for the plexiglass option, how would you attach it into place?

Nice idea but you did "work" by putting the cd case on the waterfall ;-p

Mhmm it is amusing reading posts about how the water can't be raised because of the platform. No one says you need to suction the top two suction cups to the glass. Just stick the bottom two to the inside of the aquarium (ie. the usual) and just hang the top two over the top of the aquarium. It works and I've been doing it for over half a year. In fact if its by a window just suction them to the window :) Then you can raise your water.
