Habitat - Indoor :: This is my tank!

Turtle tank setups and other indoor configurations.

Post Posted: Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:52 pm   This is my tank!

My 55 gallon aquarium with my female res, scute inside. she is 8 years old, about 6 inches. I have a rena xp3, and eggcrate screen.

As you can see it is bare bottom, there is nothing in my tank except water and a turtle dock. What can i add? I cant upgrade for a long while, so i need a lot of space for swimming, so i dont know what i can add. Suggestions please.

You can add some fake plants, either the ones that sit on the bottom or the ones that hang on the side. The advantage these give you is they won't get eaten, and they give your turtle and area to rest underwater.

you can get real plants if you don't mind your plants getting eaten, and they are beneficial for your turtles nutrition.

I got a little air pump not too long ago. Turtle enjoys chasing/biting at the bubbles.

airstone is a good idea. if you get fake plants once your turtle realizes they arent real she will leave them alone and not try and eat them

Looks good! In addition to what was said, you can put a few river rocks in there for your turt to push around. Make sure you sterilize them first (boil them in water). You probably don't want too many, since they tend to trap debris.
You can also put just about any fish tank ornament in there (if one catches your eye). More for your enjoyment, than the turtle's though ;) But you'll want something that is wider than it is tall, since it'll very likely be knocked around a lot.

i have a 55 gallon and my setup has an ATBA, therefore I can put the water level at max to the very top

I also have sand, but if you don't like to take care of sand (which isn't that much) then I'd go against it

uhhhm i have some river rocks too (those are inexpensive)

and I have some decor like floating plants and what not
