Habitat - Indoor :: Idea on new setup.

I am thinking about giving my tank a jungle vibe. To do think I want to lace the top of the water with some tip of plant, and than adding more plants to the tank.

Does anyone know a good plant to cover the top of the water, and does anyone know any negative effects that this can have .

Joe try a water hyacinth, there cool looking, however if your turtle takes interest in chomping on it, it may make a mess, theres also Common Salvinia, here this will be easier than me telling you, check out this page. http://aquaplant.tamu.edu/database/inde ... plants.htm

Water hyacinth is a fast grower. You could also try duckweed. But as ilcapo said, your biggest challenge is going to be to get your turts to leave it alone! My guys just love any water plant. In the summer, I kept some water hyacinth outside, and just gave them a plant or two on a rare occasion, since they'd have no trouble eating all of it in a day

I got it from our local koi/pond shop. Also, I've seen water hyacinth in the plant nurseries. Don't know what the weather is like where you are though. Here, any pond plants are only available during the summer (since water hyacinth is a tropical plant).

you can buy on-line, do a google search for aquatic plants native to your area. Also check out your local aquarium stores, I get most of my live plants from Petco or Petsmart.
