ok im making a ATBA with egg crate but i wana use duct tape to close the holes on the bottom so i can put sand on it i dont want to buy anything to put on top of the floor of the egg crate like glass or plexyglass and i dont want to use wood i think it will mold like crazy. ok my Q is can i use duct tape with out it molding? or what should i use on a poor womans budget? i will put pics up im really proud of what i have so far!!!!!!!!! thanks in advance!

I personally wouldn't use duct tape... moisture from the water (especially since its under lighting) might cause the duct tape to go all weird. However, can't think of what to use at the moment...=(

You might want to reconsider putting sand in the basking area. It will probably make a pretty big mess in your tank. I don't see a problem with duct tape, it might get a little funky looking after a while though, and you'd want to make sure there's no exposed sticky. I think if you keep an open mind and look around the house you'd be able to find something better.

What about corrugated plastic? You know, those plastic cardboard, they should be fairly cheap...You could stick that to your egg crate. Just cut a piece of that to size and stick it to the floor of the egg crate. That should work.

Yeah and use a hole punch and some zip ties and zip tie it to the egg create.

I would not use sand either as it would get into your tank and not be alot of fun... you should use large river rock like i did.

well my tank has sand so its ok but im not sure still what to use i might just look for stuff in my shed thers always stuuff in ther thanks. oh and that plastic stuff dose it mold ? im sure i would just have to take it out and wash it every other time i clean right?

the plastic they are talking about is chloroplast. I used it in the bottom off the rabbits cage, It has never molded. As long as you wipe it off every so often it'll be fine too use. I just cut the end off a rubber maid bin to make my sandy basking area. I put a few drain holes in and it stays dry.

Racer_x_123 are those rocks siliconed down? If not, I can see them causing a fall or even being pushed off and breaking the bottom off your tank.
